- COOK TIME
- 40 Min
Our recipe for Ultimate Fudgy Brownies is going to make you forget about any other recipe for brownies you've ever tasted... They're that good. You may just want to pour yourself another glass of milk, 'cause these homemade brownies are full of decadent, chocolatey flavor.
What You'll Need
- 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, melted
- 3/4 cup baking cocoa
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 package (12 ounces) semisweet chocolate chunks (2 cups) (See Note)
- 1 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
What to Do
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Coat a 9- x 13-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
- Place melted butter in a large bowl; add cocoa and stir until well blended. Add sugar; mix well. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add flour, vanilla, and salt; stir just until combined. Stir in chocolate chunks and nuts, if desired. Spread batter in baking dish.
- Bake about 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Let cool, then cut into serving-sized pieces.
Notes
- Semisweet chocolate chips can be substituted for the chocolate chunks.

I really would like a recipe for fudgy brownies that did NOT taste like cake. If I want cake I will bake a cake but brownies are supposed to be different.

The more eggs you add the more cake like this will be. Try putting only 2 eggs in this recipie and it will turn out very fudgy. Also pull them out of oven a little bit before the actual bake time so they are a little underdone. Its worked every time for me.

This recipe is definitely chocolatey. I love fudgy brownies, even though I don't like chocolate cake. Brownies are even better when they are warm out of the oven (and served with vanilla ice cream). I'm planning on making these this weekend as a surprise dessert for my son.

These Brownies were very good and I love that they were from scratch. My one comment is that they were not "Fudgy". They were more "Cake like". Any idea were I might have gone wrong?

Hi there! While these brownies are named Ultimate Fudgy Brownies, the Test Kitchen would like to let you know that the taste is "chocolatey" and fudgy, but they are not an actual fudgy consistency. If you would like them to be a little less cake like a little fudgier, we recommend reducing the baking time by a few minutes and using 1 less egg if you prefer. Enjoy!

CAN YOU TELL ME HOW TO MAKE THIS RECIPE WITH A HAND MIXER?

Hello! You can use a hand mixer to make these brownies. Just make sure you beat on low speed and just until everything is combined - do not over-beat. Also, you should still stir in the chips and nuts, so that the hand mixer does not break them up. Enjoy!

Question on softness I mad these and they turned pretty good I guess, but the edges were a little hard. I would truly like them to turn out like the picture looking soft and gooey from middle to end of brownie. Did I leave it in too long? The middle was pretty soft and gooey. I did use small eggs, or did I not use enough grease in the corners of my pan? If you could help me into making the ultimate brownie you have in the picture that would be awesome!!

Hi there! We usually add large eggs to our recipes. However, we do not believe that is the reason why the edges could turn out a little hard. Most brownies are harder on the ends because they cook faster than the middle. We do not recommend adding any grease to the corners because that will make them harden faster. Enjoy!

There is a product out there I think by Wilton. They are strips of ??????. You wet them thoroughly and place them on the rim of the pan and you will not have hard ends. I know because I have been using them for years. Be careful when you buy them there are different sizes. I bought them at either Michaels or AC Moore.

When eggs are mentioned, I'm assuming they are "medium" size eggs? I'm asking because all I have tonight is large eggs. Could I use 4 large eggs and the recipie still turn out ok? Thanks!

Hello! - Actually, when we list "eggs" without a size in any recipe, we mean large eggs, since this is the most commonly used egg size. :) Enjoy!

These are great made them twice already. Second time added Carmel bits instead of Cho-chips, really good that way too.

These are the best brownies I have ever made. Even my husband, who is not much of a chocolate lover, raved over them. I didn't change a thing in the recipe and don't intend to...they are perfect!

I loved these! I used chocolate chips. I do have a question though, would this recipe still work if you melted the chocolate chips before adding them?

Hi there Lisa! We're glad to hear you loved these brownies! :) We're not sure if melting the chocolate chips first would work, since this might make 'em too gooey. We haven't tried making them this way in the Test Kitchen, but if you decide to try it out, we'd love to hear how it turns out!
