Less fat doesn't have to mean less taste. Here's the proof! This brownie recipe uses applesauce in place of butter - and is it ever a flavor-packed winner! Make them and see if your family knows the difference.
What You'll Need
- 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 2 cups firmly packed dark brown sugar
- 2 eggs, well beaten (See Note)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup pecan pieces (See Note)
- Confectioners' sugar for sprinkling (optional)
What to Do
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Coat well an 8-inch square baking pan with cooking spray.
- In a large bowl, combine applesauce, brown sugar, and eggs. Mix thoroughly; add flour and baking powder and blend. Stir in vanilla and nuts.
- Pour mixture into prepared baking pan and bake 35 to 40 minutes. Cool in pan, then cut into squares and sprinkle with confectioners' sugar, if desired.
Notes
To reduce the fat even more, you can use an egg substitute. And instead of pecans, use the same amount of granola.
