When you miss that BBQ flavor because of the weather (or the seasons,) just try this sure-fire recipe indoors. It's a winner even without the grill.
What You'll Need
- 1 pound round or shoulder steak
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1 teaspoon prepared mustard
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon instant minced onion
- 1/2 cup dry red wine
What to Do
- Trim fat from steak and freeze slightly for easier slicing; cut steak into thin strips.
- In a large skillet, heat the oil; brown steak strips on both sides.
- Add remaining ingredients; cover and cook slowly for about 1 hour or until tender, adding a little more wine as the liquid cooks out. When the sauce is fairly thick, steak should be tender.
Notes
Serve on rolls or over rice or noodles. To heat up the recipe a bit, you can add cumin, Creole seasoning, or garlic powder.
