Here's a blackened steak that you can make at home with spices you have on hand. And there's no smoke-filled kitchen like with the true New Orleans version. What could be better or easier?
What You'll Need
- 2 teaspoons paprika
- 1 teaspoon crushed dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 (2-pound) beef top sirloin steak, 1 to 2 inches thick
What to Do
- In a small bowl, combine all the ingredients except the steak; mix well. Coat the steak with the seasoning mixture until completely coated.
- Heat a large nonstick skillet over high heat until hot. Carefully place the steak in the skillet and cook for 12 to 14 minutes for medium rare, or until desired doneness and the coating is blackened, turning halfway through the cooking.
- Cut across the grain into thin slices and serve.
Notes
This seasoning blend works on any type of meat, or even fish or chicken.
