It's said that we eat with our eyes, so why not turn ho-hum franks and beans into a quick supper the whole gang will be chatting about? Hot diggity dog!
What You'll Need
- 8 hot dogs (1 pound)
- 1 can (16 ounces) baked beans
- 8 hamburger buns, split
What to Do
- Cut each hot dog crosswise at 1/2-inch intervals, cutting down to within 1/4 inch of the bottom of each hot dog. Carefully bend each hot dog into a circle (cut side out) and fasten with a toothpick.
- In a medium skillet, cook the hot dogs over medium heat or an open fire, until lightly browned.
- Meanwhile, heat the baked beans in a heat-proof saucepan over medium heat or the fire until heated through. Let the hot dogs cool slightly then place each hot dog on a hamburger bun and carefully remove the toothpicks.
- Spoon the baked beans into the center of the circle formed by each hot dog and serve with the remaining baked beans on the side.
Notes
To give the baked beans additional flavor, add 2 tablespoons light brown sugar, 1 tablespoon ketchup, and 2 tablespoons real bacon bits, and cook until well combined and heated through.
