Northern European stroganoff dishes are traditionally made with chunks of beef. Today we can substitute ground beef and make an Old World favorite in just minutes.
What You'll Need
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 medium-sized onion, chopped (1 cup)
- 1 (8-ounce) can mushroom stems and pieces, drained
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 1 (10-1/2-ounce) can cream of chicken soup
- 1/2 pound medium egg noodles
- 1 cup sour cream
What to Do
- In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add ground beef and onion, and cook, stirring occasionally, until meat is browned and onion is tender. Add mushrooms, flour, garlic powder, and pepper, and cook 5 minutes, stirring constantly. Reduce heat to low and stir in the soup; simmer, uncovered, for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Meanwhile, cook egg noodles according to package directions; drain and place in a large bowl.
- Remove meat mixture from heat and stir in sour cream. Spoon over cooked noodles, and serve.
