Pick a Winner Picadillo

America isn't the only place where people love Sloppy Joes. Check out this Spanish dish that's a lot like ours, but with a little more pizzazz.

What You'll Need

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium-sized onion, chopped (about 1 cup)
  • 1 can (14½ ounces ) whole peeled tomatoes, undrained, broken up
  • 1/2 cup chopped pimiento-stuffed olives
  • 1/2 cup raisins, soaked in warm water
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

What to Do

  1. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef and onion and brown the beef until no pink remains. Add the remaining ingredients and mix well.

  2. Reduce the heat to low and simmer until the mixture is warmed through.

Notes

I suggest serving this over rice. And you might want to add a bit of zing to your meal by adding a few drops of hot pepper sauce.
