President Lincoln surely must have enjoyed this classic melt-in-your-mouth bread. Of course, by adding a bit of fresh dill to make it extra-special, I've brought it up to date. So give it a try 'cause North or South, East or West, it's still a hit centuries later!
What You'll Need
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill
What to Do
- Preheat the oven to 325 degrees.
- In a large bowl, with a pastry cutter or 2 knives, combine all the ingredients until crumbly. Using your hands, form into a smooth ball and pat into an 8-inch square baking dish.
- Prick the top all over with a fork and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until golden. Allow to cool and cut into 36 squares.
Notes
No dill? No problem! 'Cause without it, this is like a sweet shortbread-type biscuit.
