We've got a trip down memory lane just for you with these County Fair Candy Apples! Perfect for satisfying your sweet tooth.
What You'll Need
- 6 medium-sized red apples
- 6 wooden frozen dessert sticks
- 1 teaspoon butter
- 3 cup sugar
- 2/3 cup light corn syrup
- 2/3 cup water
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- 8 drops red food color
What to Do
-
Thoroughly wash and dry apples. Remove stems from apples and place a dessert stick securely through stem side of each apple. Grease a rimmed baking sheet with butter and set aside.
-
In a medium-sized saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, water, vinegar, and food color over medium-high heat. Cook 12 to 14 minutes, or until syrup reaches hard ball stage (see Note), or until a candy thermometer reaches 295 degrees F.
-
Remove from heat and dip each apple into syrup mixture, coating completely. Be careful- mixture is very hot! Place apples on baking sheet to cool.
Notes
NOTE: To test for the hard ball stage, drop a teaspoon of the candy mixture from a teaspoon into a glass of cold water. If the candy mixture hardens when it drops into the water, the mixture has reached the hard ball stage.
