These crisp, melt-in-your-mouth Real Butter Cookies are like the ones Mama used to make. They're perfect for baking into your favorite shapes and serving them at birthday parties or holiday get-togethers!
What You'll Need
- 1 1/2 cup (3 sticks) butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 4 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
What to Do
- In a large bowl, with an electric mixer, beat butter, sugar, egg, vanilla, and salt. Gradually add flour; beat until well mixed. Refrigerate dough 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
- Separate dough into 4 pieces, then roll out each section on a lightly-floured surface to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut or mold dough into desired shapes. Place shapes on ungreased baking sheets.
- Bake 8 to 10 minutes, or until light brown.
Notes
The size of the cookie cutters you use will determine the yield and therefore it may vary a little. Also, it's best not to substitute margarine for butter in this recipe.
