Would you believe baked Alaska was actually invented by a scientist who was testing the effects of heating and cooling. Who knew a science experiment could taste so good. . .and be this easy, too!
What You'll Need
- 1 (6½-ounce) package dessert shells (6 shells)
- 1 pint strawberry ice cream
- 4 egg whites
- 1/2 cup sugar
What to Do
- Preheat oven to 500 degrees F. Place dessert shells on a cookie sheet and scoop equal amounts of ice cream into each one. Place in freezer.
- In a small bowl, beat egg whites until foamy. Add sugar and continue beating until stiff peaks form and make meringue.
- Remove ice cream-filled dessert shells from freezer and quickly spread meringue over ice cream and sides of dessert shell, coating completely. Bake 2 to 4 minutes, or until meringue is golden. Serve immediately.
Notes
Watch these closely while baking - you want them to be nice and golden, but not burned. Oh - dessert shells can usually be found in the produce department of the supermarket near the strawberries.
