How to Make Mashed Potatoes
How to Make Mashed Potatoes
- Peel a good amount of potatoes (about 1/2 pound per person) and cut them into 1 to 2-inch chunks. Make sure all your chunks are about the same size, so they'll cook evenly.
- Place your cut potatoes into a pot with just enough cold water to cover 'em. Place the lid on the pot and set it on the stove.
- Let your potatoes come to a boil. Once they come to a boil, reduce heat to low and let them simmer until they're fork tender.
- Drain your pot and put your potatoes back on the stove for 1 to 2 minutes, or until all the water has evaporated.
- Place your potatoes into a bowl with some butter, a splash of milk, and a bit of salt and pepper. You can mash 'em with an old-fashioned potato masher or beat 'em with an electric mixer (just be sure not to overdo it, or your potatoes will get starchy!).
- Your mashed potatoes are done! You can enjoy as-is, or add in some sour cream, cream cheese, or buttermilk if you like your mashed potatoes extra-creamy.
