Many pizzerias make this popular Northern Italian food. It's like a double-stuffed pizza, which makes it double yummy!
What You'll Need
- 1/2 pound Italian sausage
- 1/2 cup tomato paste
- 1 cup fresh mushrooms (2 to 3 ounces), sliced
- 1 small onion, chopped (1/2 cup)
- 1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
- 3 tablespoon water, divided
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 2 (8 ounce each) packages refrigerated crescent rolls
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 cup (4 ounces) shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 cup spaghetti sauce
What to Do
-
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a large nonstick skillet, brown sausage over medium-high heat; drain any liquid and add tomato paste, mushrooms, onion, green pepper, 2 tablespoons water, and Italian seasoning. Simmer uncovered, 12 minutes.
-
Meanwhile, unroll crescent roll dough, separating each dough into 4 rectangles. Firmly press perforations together on each rectangle and flatten slightly. In a small bowl, combine egg and 1 tablespoon water; brush mixture onto edges of dough.
-
Stir cheese into meat mixture and spoon equal amounts onto half of each dough rectangle to within 1/2 inch of edges. Fold dough over filling and press to seal edges.
-
Arrange on a 10- x 15-inch rimmed cookie sheet and brush with egg mixture. Bake 15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Heat spagehetti sauce and serve with calzones.
