Bourbon chicken can be found on Chinese takeout menus and mall food courts across the country. But did you know it actually got its name from Bourbon Street in New Orleans? Whether you're serving it Mardi Gras-style or with an Asian twist, this flavorful chicken dish is simply delicious and incredibly easy to make. Give these Bourbon Chicken Bites a try when you're craving something that tastes like perfection!
What You'll Need
- 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cut into 2-inch chunks
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup canola oil
- 1 cup jalapeno pepper jelly
- 1 tablespoon light soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons bourbon
What to Do
- In a medium bowl, combine chicken, cornstarch, garlic powder, ground red pepper, and salt; toss to coat well.
- In a large skillet over high heat, heat oil. Add coated chicken in batches and cook 6 to 8 minutes, or until golden and no pink remains, stirring frequently.
- In a large saucepan over medium heat, bring jelly, soy sauce, and bourbon to a boil. Cook 2 to 3 minutes, or until jelly has melted, stirring constantly. Add chicken and toss to coat. Serve hot.

Made this with chicken thigh chunks. Because I used homemade jalapeno jam I used 1/2 cup plus 1/2 cup apple jelly it was just the right amount of spiciness. Will make again.

The heading stated "15 Meals you can make with one pound of chicken" . The first recipe Iopen up needs 2 pounds of chicken.

Hello - We apologize for this error. However, if you do only have 1 pound of chicken, you can still make this dish! Just cut all the dry ingredients (that coat the chicken) in half. You can keep the sauce ingredients the same, if you like to have a little extra sauce, or you can cut those ingredients in half as well.

The husband really liked it. I thought it was ok. Didn't really taste like mall bourbon chicken. But we make our own pepper jelly every year and I used that. Maybe the store bought stuff would make a difference. Was a good meal, just not what I was hoping for.

I made this last night and it was REALLY good! I just jalapeno pepper jello (which was green) but once it was put over the chicken pieces you couldn't even tell what color it was! I used brown rice, with scabbled egg and peas as a base for the chicken. A keeper recipe!

it sucked !!!! i followed the recipe every step and it didnt taste like bourban chicken at all.....all i tasted was that nasty jelly...it was pink color instead of bourban chicken brown color.....i just looked other recipe's up for bourbon chicken and none of them called for pepper jelly...would not recommend

Don't know what you did wrong but this recipe came out just fine. The recipe calls for jalapeno pepper jelly not just pepper jelly. I have substituted apricot preserves and made a few seasoning adjustments and it came out very well. Using a full flavor bourbon helps also. I used Wild Turkey 101.

We live in a small town and could not find jalapeno jelly but our store had red pepper jelly it came out very good and we will make it again, quick and easy to make with lots of flavor.

You can get a recipe for pepper jelly on line. Just enter it and you will find several.

If you can't find the jam, try mincing a small Jalepino peper, the wrapping it in cheese cloth and boil it in a smaall amount of water in a little sauce pan, Once the peppers have softened, stir them into a jar of apple jam, and add a bit of the flavored water. Should taste about the same.

Hi bnrudy, I don't see why you can't bake these nuggets on a cooling rack on a cookie sheet. When I make these and I will make these, that is how I will do them. I probably will spray the cooling rack lightly with spray cooking oil to prevent the nuggets from sticking.
