Take your taste buds on a heavenly ride with our Heavenly Freezer Cake. This lighter-tasting cake has a creamy strawberry center with a surprising tropical twist topping that'll make everyone swoon!
What You'll Need
- 1 angel food cake, cut into 12 (1-inch) slices
- 1/2 gallon strawberry ice cream, cut into 12 slices
- 1 (12-ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
- 1 (8-ounce) can crushed pineapple, drained
- 1/3 cup chopped walnuts
What to Do
- Arrange cake slices in the bottom of a 9- x 13-inch baking dish. Place ice cream slices evenly over top of cake.
- In a medium bowl, mix whipped topping and pineapple; spread over ice cream. Sprinkle with nuts, cover, and freeze at least 2 hours before serving.
Just a Suggestion!
- For an extra special touch, we suggest garnishing this with fresh strawberries. Also, if you can't find a rectangular container of ice cream, a round container will work just as well!
- Cool and refreshing freezer desserts are great 'cause the freezer does most of the work! For more freezer desserts, try these Ice Cream Sandwiches, our S'mores Icebox Cake, or our Pineapple Freezer Cake.

Hope substitutions aren't frowned upon as the original recipe is delicious But I'd like to share this with others instead of strawberry ice cream I subbed Pineapple sherbet Then used a few drops of rum flavoring in the whipped topping I'd say to try any combo of your favorite flavors as this is such a great and forgiving recipe Orange Sherbet also worked well and to that one I added freshly grated orange peel then added a Tbls fresh squeezed orange juice to the whipped topping Some of my family have allergies to strawberries We're used to subbing other fruits in recipes calling for strawberries Since Easter was last wk I've lots of leftover fresh eggs egg whites to put to use so made my own Angel Food cakes So easy once one gets the 'hang' of it Thanks again to the Mr Food Test Kitchens for sharing the recipes guidelines…Read More with all of us for so many easy-to-make and deliciously easy to eat recipes

I made a sponge cake but I did not make small slices. I cut it into two halves and placed one half on a dish. Next I added ice cream slice evenly on it. I placed the other half on the ice cream. Finally I mixed pineapple, cherry, strawberry, nuts, murabba (dry sweetened gourd) and raisins to whipping cream and spread evenly on top. It's a great dessert I prepared for a get together.
