I make this fairly often. I add an extra jar of sauce simetines, mushrooms. It's an absolute winner with great leftovers. Even my 100% Sicilian descent husband will ask for it!

We're very sorry to hear that the recipe came out dry We know how frustrating it can be The Test Kitchen came up with a few suggestions as to what might have happened The recipe calls for oz of spaghetti so if a whole box which is usually oz was used there may have been more pasta than the recipe called for Also spaghetti sauce tends to change the size of their bottles from time to time as well so if the bottle was a smaller size that could also be a reason it came out dry Another thought was that if a - x -inch baking dish was used the recipe is spread out more so reducing the cooking time by a few minutes may keep it from drying out Again we're very sorry that this came out dry for you We hope you'll give it a second chance and…Read More if you do we'd love to hear the results

Who doesn't love spaghetti? And baked spaghetti is even better, but I like the looks of this one more than the baked spaghetti's I have had before. This recipe has tons of positive comments and it is easy to see why. One person said it tastes similar to lasagna, and with ricotta cheese being one of the ingredients, I can imagine that being pretty accurate. I can't wait to try this.

I would like to put this in the crock pot instead of the oven, but how long would you set the crock pot for and at what temperature.

Hello! While we haven't tested this recipe in a slow cooker, we think it would work. If you follow the recipe as-is (putting the already cooked beef and prepared spaghetti into the slow cooker) we recommend cooking on low in the slow cooker for about 2 hours. If you prefer to put the uncooked spaghetti and uncooked beef into the slow cooker, then we recommend 6 hours on low or 2.5 hours on high. We'd love to hear how it works out and we hope that everyone enjoys! )

What an interesting 'twist' on the usual "Spaghetti w/Meat Sauce" dish", or "Spaghetti w/Meatballs"! I'll definitely make this dish the next time I would have served 'traditional' Spaghetti to my family. I will (however) use 'lighter' Ricotta 'lighter' Sour Cream. I don't think that this will effect the flavor of the dish, but we'll see....I love recipes which save on prep time, since we're all pretty busy now-a-days! I'm looking forward to making this dish since it's easy to prepare, and it sounds very tasty.

Why can't I save certain recipes like this one? I don't see the Save button.

When you do not see the "save" option, that means you already have it saved. To the right of the recipe you will see "remove from box". That is a hint that you already have it. Hope this helps.

This recipe is easy to prepare, and that is definitely a plus. There is a higher ratio of ricotta in this recipe, than there is in a traditional lasagna. The ricotta layer might benefit from the addition of mozzarella cheese.

Next time I would add more sauce (mine came out a bit on the dry side) and I would cut the spaghetti in half (so as to make it scoop out a bit easier). Other than that, we enjoyed this! I also added some shredded mozzarella cheese with the parm on top.

My family loved this recipe! I added some crushed red pepper flakes which added a nice kick! It was delicious! Serve with garlic bread and you're good to go! Might try with a pound of Italian sausage next time just to change it up.

Not to put a damper on things, but if your going to go to the trouble of making spagetti, why dirty out all the extra dishes, and wait for the oven, why can't you throw it all together, slap it on the table and call it good??/Long time good cook here, just a suggestion everyone. smiles.

It's usually found in local supermarkets in the pasta aisle with spaghetti sauce. If you cant find it, you could always make you own using marinara sauce, a little cream and vodka.

Made this dish for dinner last night; could have sworn it was called 'creamy spaghetti casserole'! Made it exactly according to the recipe except used pecorino romano cheese to top because that's all I had. Got rave reviews from all present! Used Barilla Tomato & Basil jarred sauce. Next time I'll make with Italian pork sausage for variety, maybe a different sauce (So many to choose from!), and perhaps Asiago cheese. The ricotta and sour cream mixed into the hot pasta make for great flavor and fabulous texture. This is definitely on my repeat list! Thanks, Mr. Food!

My husband is not into sour cream. Can you substitute plain yogurt or something else?
Test Kitchen Team
Aug 28, 2013
If you would like to leave out the sour cream, we would recommend substituting either marscapone cheese or plain Greek yogurt. We suggest Greek yogurt because it's consistency is similar to sour cream. Enjoy!

It doesn't get much easier than this! Instead of red spaghetti sauce I used Vodka Pasta Sauce - oh, YUM!! It was a Family Hit when I served this last night with salad and garlic toast.

Hi, This sounds delicious and if made in a crock pot you don't have to heat the oven. How long did you cook it in the crock pot? Janet
