Who doesn't love a hearty Italian casserole? Using only six ingredients, this is one dish that's going to leave you wanting more!
What You'll Need
- 1 (16-ounce) package spaghetti
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 (26 ounce) jar spaghetti sauce
What to Do
-
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
-
Prepare spaghetti according to package directions; drain, rinse, drain again, and set aside in a large bowl.
-
Meanwhile, in a large skillet, brown ground beef over medium-heat until no pink remains; drain off excess liquid. Add onions, peppers, and salt; cook 6 to 8 minutes, until vegetables are fork-tender. Stir in spaghetti sauce. Add to spaghetti; toss until well mixed.
- Pour into a 9- x 13-inch baking dish that has been coated with cooking spray; cover tightly with aluminum foil and bake 50 minutes. Remove foil and bake 5 to 8 minutes, until top is crisp.
Notes
- You can adjust the ingredients and the amounts to make a casserole with your leftover spaghetti. And it's great topped with 3 cups (12 ounces) shredded Cheddar cheese before baking to give it a different flavor and texture.

We love spaghetti and mostaccioli! I never think to bake spaghetti, so I am thrilled I found this recipe. I'll have it this week with garlic bread and tossed salad. I have found I need to buy two jars of spaghetti sauce these days because the jars have gotten smaller. I will use part of the second jar for this recipe.

Seems like all the recipes using spaghetti sauce calls for a 26oz or 28oz jar of sauce. I can only find 24oz jars.

Hi there! The Test Kitchen says that over the years manufacturers have changed the sizes of their products. We asked Patty, Test Kitchen Director, if it was okay to use a 24 oz jar of sauce in this recipe and she said yes. :) Enjoy!

We loved this, but it was a little dry. Why?

Hi there! We asked Patty in the Test Kitchen why this recipe would have turned out dry. She has a few tips for the next time you make it. Make sure that the lid is on tightly as well as taking off some of the cooking time depending on the baking dish that you're using. Finally, you can put a little extra sauce in the mixture as well as add 1/4 cup water to steam the recipe. We hope that Patty's tips helped clarify your question. Let us know if you have any more questions. Enjoy!

My family loved it!!! As the other lady said, make sure you use a big pot to stir all the ingredients together.

Made this last night, and if I didn't add seasonings it would have been BLAH and tasteless. I added a lot of Italian seasoning, oregano, fresh garlic, Cavender's, mushrooms, seasoned pepper so that really helped. Make sure to use a HUGE pot in order to stir meat, pasta and sauce together well. It definitely need cheese!!

This was delicious and my family loved it! I deleted the green peppers because my family does not like them. I added fresh mushrooms and one teaspoon if garlic. Yummy!
