Instead of that same ol' baked sweet potato casserole for Christmas this year, we've come up with a new recipe, that's got a bit of a regal feel. What really gives our Caramelized Sweet Potato Crowns a special something is the ooey, gooey butter pecan topping that has just enough crunch to compliment the creamy potatoes! This new can't-resist twist on an old-time favorite is guaranteed to get everyone excited for Christmas dinner!

What You'll Need

  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large unpeeled sweet potatoes, cut into 1-1/2-inch slices with ends discarded
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup coarsely chopped pecans
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon butter, softened

What to Do

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  2. In a large bowl, combine oil and salt; mix well. Add sweet potato slices and toss until evenly coated. Place on a rimmed baking sheet.
  3. Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until fork-tender.
  4. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, pecans, cinnamon, and butter until crumbly. Sprinkle on top of each potato and return to oven; cook 8 to 10 minutes or until sugar is melted and nuts start to toast up. Serve immediately.

Leave a comment...I'd like to add this recipe to my recipe box. What happened to the click spot for me to add it? I already have a recipe box but suddenly I am unable to add this recipe to it. ????

Hi there! The Save to Recipe Box feature is still available to the right of the image.

Love that these are individual servings!

Are the potatoes parboiled first before applying the other ingredients???

No, the potatoes are not parboiled before baking. Enjoy!

Delicious. A wonderful change from the traditional marshmallow topping

Made this for Thanksgiving and they were wonderful and a big hit. Not one left. Thanks Mr. Food staff for giving me a fast easy no ho hum way to one of my fav side dishes.

What a unique and wonderful way to dress up a meal! I will try these this year but they can't be anything other than Oh so good! (Instead of syrup, try topping them off with 1-2 mini marshmallows during the last couple minutes of baking).

These are great. They also make a very pretty presentation for any meal.

Can't wait to try this recipe. It sounds great because my family loves baked sweet potatoes!

love these

I never even got to eat one, everyone grabbed them all, I guess they were great!

oooooh its soooooooo good!!!! :)

Sweet potatoes aren't just for Thanksgiving anymore! Easy to prepare, tasty and if you want leftovers...make extra. I made these again on Mother's Day everyone loved them!!!

We enjoyed these better than my normal candied sweet potatoes. These were even easier to make. Next time I will try a little less oil as I had so much on my cookie sheet afterwards I made a mess. I didn't use nuts-because I had used them all on something else but I'll be sure to do nuts next time. Thank you for sharing.

I will try these tomorrow! Thanks soooo much! Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!

I can't wait to try this one. It is so yummy looking!

So tasty - so easy.
