Smoky Barbecue Bean Bake

They'll come back for seconds and thirds when you serve this down-home taste treat! It's as if you're stirring things up at the old chuck wagon with this Smoky Barbecue Bean Bake.
What You'll Need
- 4 (1 pound each) cans great Northern or navy beans, drained
- 2 3/4 cups mild barbecue sauce
- 1 1/4 cup dry bread crumbs
- 1 pound cooked ham, pork, or smoked turkey, diced
- 1 large green bell pepper, finely chopped
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon liquid smoke
- 1 cup (4 ounces) shredded Cheddar cheese
- 3 tablespoons crumbled cooked bacon or imitation bacon bits (optional)
What to Do

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Grease a 9- x 13-inch glass baking dish

In a large bowl, combine beans, barbecue sauce, bread crumbs, diced meat, green pepper, onion, and liquid smoke.

Put mixture into prepared baking dish. Top with shredded cheese and crumbled bacon.

Bake 35 to 40 minutes.

I saw this recipe last year and although had to cut it back for 2 it was pretty good. Going to try it again, but this time in stead of ham, I am going to cut up a smoked pork hock I have, so shouldn't need the liquid smoke, but might use it as well. As I like spicy stuff, will probably add some jalapeno peppers as well.

These beans are very tasty!!Left out the liquid smoke,Put them in my smoker for three hours

Made per recipe and average fare. Second time I added 1/2 cup brown sugar and used red pepper; added cheese for last 10 minutes of baking time - much better. I used off-the-shelf Kraft Original BBQ sauce.

This looks so good, & I love cooking with liquid smoke, I even add it to my potato salad! Gonna have to try this!

What can be used to replace soy sauce. I have a daughter that is very allergic to any and all soy products. Thank You bubblinover

This recipe contains liquid smoke not soy. So it should be safe for your daughter as there is no soy found in liquid smoke. Hope this helps. :)
