Chocolate-Glazed Almond Bars

Cookies? Candy? Who cares?! Either way, they're still SUPER! Bring a batch of these to your next holiday party or family gathering and watch as your platter empties right before your eyes. These addictive snacks are sure to become a staple at every event you go to.
What You'll Need
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened
- 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 1 egg, separated
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
- 1 cup (1 six-ounce package) semisweet chocolate chips, melted
- 1/4 cup toasted sliced almonds
What to Do
- Preheat the oven to 275 degree F.
- In a medium-sized bowl, combine the flour and cinnamon; set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg yolk and almond extract. Gradually add the flour mixture and blend.
- Spread the mixture into a 9-inch square baking pan that has been coated with nonstick cooking spray. Lightly beat the egg white and brush it over the top. Bake on the center rack of the oven for 30 to 35 minutes or until lightly browned. Place the pan on a baking rack to cool. Spread the melted chocolate over the top and sprinkle with the sliced almonds.
- Chill until the chocolate hardens, then cut into diagonal bars.
Notes
Try being extra fancy and substitute chopped cashews or macadamia nuts for the almonds.
