Give me a hot skillet or wok, a thinly sliced steak and a few veggies, and I'll give you dinner on the table in no time.

What You'll Need

  • 1 1/2 pound beef round steak, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter
  • 1 3/4 cup beef broth
  • 1/2 pound fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 large red bell pepper, cut into thin strips
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch

What to Do

  1. In a large skillet, brown the steak and onion in the butter over medium-high heat for 5 to 7 minutes.

  2. Add the beef broth, mushrooms, bell pepper, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Reduce the heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer for 30 minutes.

  3. In a small bowl, combine the water and cornstarch; mix well. Add to the skillet and cook for 1 to 2 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.

Notes

Serve over rice or noodles and add a tossed salad for a complete meal.
