Five stars! Made exactly as written, except used pecans as I was out of walnuts. A great tasting coffee cake, easy to make, bake enjoyed with morning cup of coffee. Also we enjoyed it as an afternoon snack. To anyone about to try this recipe just be sure to not over-bake it as that will produce a dry result. am not able to find where to enter my rating! Sorry, so will do this 5 stars!

So where does the coffee come into this recipe? It's not mentioned at all in the ingredients. Also, I never buy cake mixes I make them from scratch. What sort of cake is this, sponge, Madiera or what?

I love these coffee cake recipes that use cake mixes. They are good for morning breakfasts and for desserts. I think this is a pretty cake with its layers. I am definitely going to make it next week. It will be so good with a hot cup of coffee!

I made this recipe. It was good. Moist and fluffy but I realized what I'm looking for is like a pound cake. It's made in 2 loaf pans and you can slice it in thin slices. But thanks, I'm getting closer to finding it.

Thank you so much for posting a recipe for coffee cake using the new size cake mix. I'm going to make it right now! I will rate it in a while but it looks delicious!

This recipe took longer in the oven than stated. Be careful when storing. I stored mine in a metal biscuit tin and the crunchy topping went soft after a day. Having said that it was yummy.

I baked this with Aldi's 17.4 oz. cinnamon swirl quick bread mix, adding a jar of strawberry preserves atop the cinnamon-walnut mixture, before adding the top layers. After the cake cooled I dribbled a white frosting glaze across the top. Delish! Thanks for another grr-eat recipe, Mr. Food.

So you actually created a totally different Sour Cream Coffee Cake without sour cream. How do you justify rating Mr Food's original recipe?

I agree with you that liliodine created a new cake from their recipe by adding strawberry preserves a white frosting glaze and using a quick bread mix but where do you see that she did NOT use sour cream I don't see that at all She followed their recipe and added even MORE to it than the original called for It sounds like she is very creative and a very adventurous baker wanting to try her 'own' twist to things and make it more of her 'own' than just being one of the 'followers' that so many people are Just because YOU aren't that creative you shouldn't criticize others for being inventive She had every right to rate this recipe she simply made it more her own So lighten up on her cobaltblue Maybe you should take a few tips from her instead of trying to put her down for her…Read More creativity

In early spring all cake mixes reduced the size of their cake mix. Almost everyone did including can goods. Just part of this ecomony. Just reduce the liquids by a table spoon or so and the recipe will still work.

I doubled the recipe to make 2 cakes and i reduced the water to 1 2/3...cp...if you do one cake try 3/4 cp..add tsp full until it is thick batter that will pour...:0)

The 17.25 ounce cake mix isn't Duncan Hines, Betty Crocker or Pillsbury. What "boxed" yellow cake mix is the Mr. Food Kitchen using. I would love to make this recipe, but without some adjustments or the "right" cake mix, it won't come out correctly.

I have a similar recipe that I use repeated. 1 yellow cake mix(remove 2/3 c. of dry mix) 3 eggs and 16 oz. sour cream; mix, batter will be thick. Streusel topping-2/3 c dry mix; 1 c. brown sugar, 1/4 c. melted butter. Layer in greased 9 x 13 pan; 1/2 batter, topping, batter topping. Bake. Additionally i have added fruits (blueberries) to the middle layer--Really Easy and gobbled up quickly.

I made this and it taste good, but it was wet in the middle. The toothpick came out dry so I don't know what happened.

You also can add 1/2 cup of chocolate chips into the medium bowl mixture it makes the coffee cake richer. I also exchange the water for milk. Try it I get many good comments.

Has anyone found the 17 1/4 pkg of yellow cake mix. If so, what brand and where? Thanks.
