Molasses Crinkles

This cookie recipe reminds us of all those times we went to visit Grandma and her house was filled with the yummy smells of cookies baking in the oven. What better way to stroll down memory lane than to bake up your very own batch of Molasses Crinkles.
What You'll Need
- 3/4 cup shortening
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Sugar for decorating
What to Do

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Beat shortening at medium speed with an electric beater until creamy; gradually add brown sugar, beating well. Add egg and molasses, beating well.

Combine flour and next 5 ingredients; add to shortening mixture, mixing well.

Shape dough into 1-inch balls, and roll each ball in sugar. Place 2 inches apart on lightly greased cookie sheets.

Bake 10 to 14 minutes. Cool on cookie sheets 3 minutes. Remove to wire racks to cool completely.

A little crunch - a little chew - WONDERFUL! I always add extra spice for deeper flavor. Don't overbake or cookie will be just crunchy and lose it's chewiness.
