I made this for dinner tonight per husbands request. We both really enjoyed it. There was plenty of extra cheese sauce so next time I will double or triple pasta. I used small shells. I think some bacon would be a tasty addition. Also I used Colby/Monterey Jack cheese. This is what i had on hand. Will be making again.

One the best mac and cheese recipes. I have been making it for a few years. It taste like my grandmother's. My family requests it often. I often change the type of cheese or blend a couple of cheeses depending on the occasion. It is so easy to make and I often make it ahead of time and bake it right before I need it. It is a go-to recipe .

This is my family's favorite. When every one gets together they always ask for it. It makes up great the day before and I just bake it right before I need it. I sometimes vary the cheese depending on what I have on hand. It is good when I substitute half cup of hot pepper cheese to spice it up.

@jlturner Yes, cook macaroni according to package directions until firm, drain it and set aside before following the other steps. I love this recipe. It always turns out great and is super easy once youve made it a time or two. The sauce will seem thin at first but the macaroni soaks it up as it bakes in the oven. I wont make mac and cheese any other way.

I made this recipe Sunday night for my family so we could have it Monday. Just popped it in the oven when we got home and had yummy dinner. My 4-year-old said, "This is really good - I LOVE it!" Nothing short of high praise here. :O)
