What You'll Need

  • 4 pounds very ripe tomatoes, cut into chunks
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon slivered fresh basil

What to Do

  1. Fill a blender ¾ of the way full with tomatoes and puree until smooth. Pour pureed tomatoes into a soup pot and repeat with remaining tomatoes until all tomatoes are pureed

  2. Add sugar, garlic powder, onion, oregano, salt, and pepper; stir until well mixed.

  3. Bring to boil then reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered 1 hour, stirring occasionally. (Cooking this uncovered will allow the sauce to thicken up.) Stir in basil and serve.

I made this sauce with my food processor. Didn't have to seed or peel tomatoes, I just poured it thrum the seive. I added a little bit of olive oil and mixed one quarter cup of water with four tsp.water to thicken sauce. Very good sauce for homemade!

Thats four tsp corn starch. Sorry

Do the tomatoes need to be peeled?

You do not need to peel the tomatoes first. However, if you prefer to, you can. Thank you for your question, enjoy!

I think this would be a good way to have the tomatos ready to make chii anytime i want to.

This recipe sounds great. My family and I use alot of tomato sauce in our homemade recipes. Since this recipe for tomato sauce is cooked, can it also be put into canning jars and shelved?

what kind of tomatoes are best to use for this sauce. Are plum tomatoes good.

Try drizzling a little olive oil, fresh garlic and fresh basil leaves (all to taste) in with the tomatoes before blending. Excellent!
