To start off, these pickles are delicious and so easy to make. A few questions. When I make this recipe it's about 4 quarts. Do I have to put all 4 quarts in the refrigerator. I know you say they last about 3-4 months but I won't eat all 4 quarts in that allotted time. Can they be put in my pantry until I need another one. I assume the 3-4 months time is once they are opened and in the fridge. Or, if I want to put in my pantry, do I need to sterilize them.

Hi there! These cannot go into your pantry. We're not actually canning the pickles. That's an entirely different process. They have to be refrigerated. If you're concerned that you won't be able to eat the full amount in the time frame, we suggest making half the batch instead. We hope that helps! Enjoy! :)

These are just good old refrigerator pickles from my neck of the woods. The women in my family have been making these pickles for many years. There are many refrigerator pickle recipes out there...this being one of them. We prefer a strong garlic taste in ours so we use more garlic. As well, we use Glass Gallon Jars to put them up in. Those can be found in any restaurant/bar who order Maraschino Cherries and the like...most times they will just give them away. We made these pickles at the end of harvest time so we could use up the last of the pickling cucumbers...they are good!!!

I'm not a pickler, but I'm going to try this recipe. It seems to me that the jars that will hold the pickles should be sterilized first. Yes/no? Also how long do you think they will last in the fridge? Thanks for any advice.

Hi there! The jars and/or bowls do not need to be sterilized first. The pickles will last 3-4 months in the refrigerator. Enjoy!

Sounds like the cukes are left whole. They are not sliced, correct?

We love pickles and these sound very easy, so I'll give'em a try. I like that you can also use English cukes, as they're always readily available. I think I'll also add a couple of cloves of fresh garlic to mine, and some pickling spice. If you grow dill in your garden, try using the dill AND the 'crowns' after the dill has gone to seed in late summer. I use dried dill when I don't have any fresh, but fresh dill makes a lot of difference in flavor.

Love This - Sounds so easy and have most items on hand. A HINT, if you don't have kirby's use English Cucs, they work.
