Italian green beans are broader and more tender than your ordinary green bean, which is what makes them an interesting choice when trying to pick out a vegetable side dish to go with dinner. By combining it with a few seasonings we have sitting around in our spice cabinet, we have a super simple vegetable dish that we can pair with a variety of foods: chicken, tortellini, pork chops, or anything else.
What You'll Need
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 3 (10-ounce) packages frozen Italian-style green beans, thawed
- 1 cup vegetable broth
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil or 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
What to Do
- Melt butter with oil in a large skillet over medium heat; add onion, and saut 5 minutes or until tender.
- Add green beans and remaining ingredients; cook 20 to 25 minutes or until beans are tender.
