Here's a simple way to doctor up canned baked beans and have everybody thinking you made them from scratch...and without even lighting the oven!
What You'll Need
- 2 (16 ounce each) cans vegetarian baked beans
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1/4 cup bacon bits
What to Do
-
Preheat grill to medium heat.
-
Combine all ingredients in an 8-inch square disposable aluminum pan; mix well and cover tightly with aluminum foil. Place pan on grill 7 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, or until beans are bubbly and heated through.
Notes
Not barbecuing today? No problem. This will work cooked in a saucepan over medium heat for 8 to 10 minutes or until hot.

AHHHHHH Better yet, try adding ground CLOVES to the beans. Maybe an eighth of a tsp. or a quarter tsp. GO BY TASTE and you will be surprised at how delicious the cloves make the beans. I always get compliments on my beans and make them for a fundraiser picnic where we usually feed more than 250 people. SInce we use the institutional size cans I have to go by taste. TRY IT!.

No shortcuts making beans. Slow baking with real bacon makes excellent beans.
