Don't use wine in a slow cooker! All other methods of cooking are ok because the alcohol burns off at 165 degrees. In the slow cooker it does not so substitute with chicken broth or beef broth.

Love chicken thighs but sometimes too much darkness in the middle where the bone is...not appetizing. Have soaked in cold water, etc. but still there. Puts me off. Same with drumsticks.

Before I can try these recipes, I need to know something (I guess I've always been afraid to ask) what if you cook for an alcoholic what do you suggest using instead of alcohol?

That is a great question! It really depends entirely on the recipe. For example, if a recipe calls for red wine, sometimes you can substitute beef broth. Other times chicken broth can be used as a stand in for white wine. There are other instances where the alcohol can be omitted completely. Occasionally you may just want to not use that particular recipe. If there is a specific Mr. Food Test Kitchen recipe that you have a question about, feel free to email us at info@mrfood.com. Thank you!

Can you use fully cooked chicken in the chicken recipes? If so, how do you adjust the recipes, accordingly?

Hi: If you don't want to download (it isn't big one) believe you can just open the book and download only the one single recipies you want. I do it a lot and works fine. Luck! Polly
