Some foods are so good that we're tempted to lick the bowl. Well, with this one, we get to eat it!
What You'll Need
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 4 bell peppers (2 red and 2 green), cut into 1/2-inch strips
- 2 large onions, cut into 1/4-inch slices
- 1 (1 pound) loaf Italian bread
- 1 1/2 pound Italian pork sausage, cut into 2-inch pieces
- 2 cups spaghetti sauce
What to Do
-
In large skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat and saute peppers and onions 12 to 15 minutes, or until golden, stirring occasionally; remove them to bowl and set aside.
-
Meanwhile, slice 1/2 inch off top of bread; pull out center of bread and save it for another use.
-
In same skillet, cook sausage 12 to 15 minutes over medium-high heat, or until no pink remains. Return onions and peppers to skillet, then add spaghetti sauce; mix well. Cook 3 to 5 minutes, or until thoroughly heated.
-
Spoon into center of bread, replace top and, using a serrated knife, slice into individual servings.
