- COOK TIME
- 7 Hr
Our slow cooker version of Cola Pot Roast comes swimming in a rich tasting sauce, thanks to one of our favorite soft drinks. Yes, surprisingly it's the cola, that adds a special flair to this tender, flavorful pot roast.
What You'll Need
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 (3-1/2- to 4-1/2-pound) boneless beef bottom round roast
- 4 carrots, peeled and sliced
- 1 large onion, cut into half-moons
- 1 (12-ounce) can cola
- 1 (12-ounce) bottle chili sauce
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons hot pepper sauce
What to Do
- Sprinkle salt, pepper, and garlic powder evenly over entire roast then place roast in a 6-quart slow cooker. Place carrots and onion around roast.
- In a medium bowl, combine remaining ingredients; mix well then pour over roast.
- Cover and cook on low setting 7 to 8 hours, or until fork-tender. Slice and serve topped with sauce and vegetables.

I am confused. How come the picture with this recipe shows a medium rare roast, yet it says to cook it for 7-8 hours or until fork tender? This obviously cannot be a picture of how the roast turns out.

Very good Pot Roast! I've made it a couple of times. The reviews were right on with the hot sauce. Omit, the hot sauce if you want a mildly sweet taste. Adding Hot Sauce will make it too spicy.

I made this roast today; followed the recipe except added celery and added more cola to make more sauce for gravy as another reviewer suggested. I made garlic mashed potatoes to go with it. Didn't have the problem of it being to hot or spicy as some said, but the sauce turned out to be more of a sweet and sour taste, more like a sauce for meatballs. I will make it again but will use either the cola or the chili sauce, but not both together. And also will not add extra liquid as I had way to much sauce. I will say it flavored the roast good as long as you ate it without putting extra sauce on it and didn't put to much on the veggies & mashed potatoes.

Good as is, I never alter the recipe. I serve it with mashed potatoes to make good use of that yummy gravy. Leftovers are great on sandwiches too.

I have been making this recipe for the last few years. I usually add 2 cans of cola so that I have the extra broth for the amazing gravy that this recipe makes. I put carrots and potatoes in with the roast or just have mashed potatoes and the gravy!! Soooooo Goooooood!!

Made this yesterday and it was delicious. I changed a couple of things though since my family is not into spicy foods. I did not add the hot pepper sauce. I also added one packet of onion soup mix and potatoes. I will definitely be making this again.

if i wanted to add some small or cut up potatoes, how long into the cooking process should i do it since they take less time to cook than the carrots?

I make this with brisket and use 1 can coke (not diet) mixed with 1 can mushroom soup. Pour over roast in crockpot and then sprinkle an envelope of dry onion soup mix on top. Cover and cook for at least six hours in crock pot. YUM!

THIS RECIPE SOUNDS GREAT! I WILL BE MAKING IT SOON. I BOUGHT THE CHILI SAUCE AT KROGERS, AND WALMART. I AGREE WITH SOME OF THE OTHERS THAT SAID THE HOT SAUCE WAS TOO HOT. I WON'T BE ADDING THAT TO THE RECIPE WHEN I MAKE IT.

I think that the recipe calls for hot sauce as in Frank's Hot Sauce and not Tabasco.

I'm almost thinking that the two Tablespoons hot sauce is a typo! Assuming that 'hot sauce' is Tabasco I only put in 1 good Tablespoon and it was really spicy, particularly the carrots, they seem to have absorbed the 'hot'! Also added small potatos. I will make again but definitely will cut the hot sauce down some more!

Try Frank's Hot Sauce instead of Tabasco, but go easy on it. When Mr. food calls for hot pepper sauce, I think he means Franks. Check out his hot wing recipes and you will see the same wording. I hope this helps:)

Dont you have a SaveMart or Walmart or Raleys store where you live? Use a bottle of Cocktail sauce with 1/2 to 1 tsp. of chili powder mixed in. Maybe some pureed onions as well.

Chili Sauce is actually just a type of catsup. It's not as thick or sweet as regular catsup. I'd substitute 1 cup catsup & 1/2 cup water for the 12 oz. chili sauce. It's usually bottled in the same type of glass bottle as cocktail sauce; and with their coloring of the 2 sauces they might look similar, but the cocktail sauce has a horseradish so it has a "bite" to that the chili sauce doesn't have. It's not spicy.

Heinz makes the BEST chili sauce and you should find it in bottles near the ketchup. It is more flavorful than ketchup and you will love it! It is not as sweet as ketchup .Adults in my family use it in place of ketchup. If your supermarket doesn't have it, ask them to order it for you. You won't regret it!

You will want to use regular cola, not diet. The sugar in the cola is necessary for this recipe. Thank you and enjoy!

I did not add any hot sauce or chili sauce. I added extra veggies, like potatoes, extra carrots, extra onions, and cabbage. I also included some spices. It was great. My husband loved it. It had a very nice beef flavor and the meat was so tender. I did add soy sauce, a little ginger, onion soup mix.

This was awesome! I made some changes. I have little children so I did not add any hot pepper sauce and as far as the chili sauce, I didn't add as much as the recipe calls for. Still delicious and juicy. The cola is such a great touch. Definitely adding to the family binder.

Well, I needed a recipe for roasts today and I found this. Not a fan of this at all. It didn't have a beef flavor at all and I have an after taste in my mouth. I also make a gravy up. I cooked this in a "bag" but shouldn't have made a difference in the flavor. Too bad, very disappointed. I would be asking "where's the beef?"

I don't like really spicy food. Onion Soup Mix in lieu of the hot pepper sauce and chili sauce, makes a great flavor.

Sounds great, but I think I'd tone down the hot sauce also. Or just 86 it. I prefer to taste my food not get 3rd degree burns on my tongue. BTW I have no problem printing the recipes. Maybe it's the type of printers the readers are using.

Delicious recipe, the only thing I might change is the Tabasco. Perhaps 1 Tbl instead of 2 or perhaps there was a typo in the recipe and it should have bee 2 tsp. instead.

Husband loved this recipe - made a minor change - left out hot sauce - added a few potatoes - tried it again using stew beef and loved it too ... again no hot sauce. Did thicken it up a bit with 1/4 cup water and 3 tbsps. flour just before serving .... have passed the recipe on to a number of people. thanks .....

My family loves Cola Pot Roast....It's a little spicy hot but we love that type of food. I cooked the carrotts whole instead of cutting them up. I will make this many more times.
