What to Do
- Slice cakes in half lengthwise; place in a single layer in a 9- x 13-inch baking dish.
- Beat cream cheese and sugar at medium speed with an electric beater until smooth, about 1 minute. Fold in 1 container of whipped topping; spread mixture over cakes. Spoon pie filling over cream cheese mixture. Spread with remaining container of whipped topping. Cover and chill at least 2 hours before serving.
Notes
Substitute cherry pie filling for blueberry for a different flavored dessert. And a sprinkling of chopped nuts on top gives this version a nice rich crunch.

If you use a store bought cake mix it will be too much batter . You can always make a few cupcakes with the rest. Healthier than using TWINKIES. I am sure I will be making this. Looks so easy. And I LOVE easy!

I've used Yellow & White cake mixes on the bottom. Turned out delicious. I used a from scratch recipes from my favorite cookbook, so you can half the recipe & it's just enough, that way you don't waste any cake mix. Just bake & let cool completely before starting the recipe. You can get real creative & use all different kinds of cake mixes that way you really can make it your own recipe! Enjoy it this way, I know you will!!!!

Thank you for your idea of using cake mix instead of using cream filled snack cakes. Sounds far more appealing to me. I believe it will give a better dessert and be less expensive than using store bought snack cakes. I'm going to try this method and I will be using blueberries. I have some in the freezer. Easy to make a pie filling with them.

Many of you have inquired about vanilla cream-filled snack cakes. One of the more common brands of this item is a Twinkie. However, there are a number of other brands on the market that are comparable to Twinkies. Just check the snack cake section of your local grocery store and I am sure you will find a wonderful substitution. Thank you all for your questions and comments!

Wal-Mart also sells their store brand (Great Value) cakes. They're usually with their honey buns, muffins, etc.

I have made this in the past but used coconut cream pudding for the filling and topped it at serving with toasted coconut. Always delicious!

I love this quick recipe and have made it with blueberry pie filling and also with the peach. The blueberry is our favorite. It goes fast at the church dinners no matter what flavor you make.

I think this would be so much better if you made your own cake and put on the bottom...why would anyone eat those things in the package? I can't even pronounce most of the ingredients listed on the package.....ewwwww

I make almost the same thing, I use sponge cake broken up into a 9x13 pan. I mix vanilla pudding usually the night before so that it will be cold, spread it on the top of the cake, then the blueberries, cook whip. I sometimes sprinkle nuts on the top of the cool whip. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
