Cobbler seems to correlate with classic and this Caramel Apple Cobbler certainly does! When we made this in here in the Mr. Food Test Kitchen it was gobbled up in no time because it was such a hit with everyone in the office! Try it and see why!

What You'll Need

  • 8 medium cooking apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup quick-cooking oats, uncooked
  • ice cream
  • caramel topping

What to Do

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Place apple slices in a lightly greased 9x 13-inch pan. Combine granulated sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over apples, tossing gently to coat.

  2. Combine brown sugar and flour; cut in butter with pastry blender until mixture is crumbly. Stir in oats. Sprinkle brown sugar mixture evenly over apple mixture. Bake 30 minutes. Serve warm with ice cream and drizzle with caramel topping.

Notes

Cooking apples work best in pies and cobblers like this. Pick from the following varieties at the market produce counter: Granny Smith, McIntosh, Rome Beauty, Stayman, Winesap, or York Imperial.

I haven't made this yet but I was wondering if I could freeze some caramels like a 1cup,then chop, and sprinkle over the apple mixture before baking,,would that make a big difference?

Where is the caramel?

Oops, thank you for catching that! We corrected the recipe and it now has the caramel sauce in it. Thank you again and enjoy!
