I am confused. These recipes are supposed to be made from cake mixes but this one is made from scratch. What's up?

We apologize; this recipe was included in our newsletter collection of cake mix recipes and is not originally made using a cake mix. If you would like to use a chocolate cake mix to make this, you can do so but you would need to increase the pan size to a 9 x 13-inch. Enjoy!

I just made the Chocolate Sour Cream Cake (one layer) and am wondering if it needs to be kept in the refrigerator. It has cool whip in it. Please let me know. Thanks.

Delicious and soooooo easy! I did add a bit of vanilla to the batter. Will definitely make again when I need something quick and delicious.

I of course didn't think to print out the sour cream frosting recipe (and am not online at home, which is probably a good thing) so I made chocolate whipped cream instead. This is a nice, basic cake; good for a picnic or a quick snack. The whipped cream frosting added a nice lightness to what could tend to be a slightly heavy cake.

Tried it this weekend. My husband kept asking what was in the middle because it was so moist. Made Sout Cream frosting also which was good, but next time will try with confectioner sugar and whipped topping right before serving.

This is now my favorite "go to" recipe when I have to create something wonderful, really fast! I top it with Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting and ALWAYS have many requests for the recipe, but unfortunately never bring home leftovers!! So easy, I just make another!!!

This cake is easy and wonderful. Dense, chocolaty, rich and moist. Try it with applesauce or cherry pie filling instead of icing.
