We recently rediscovered a treasured recipe that's as sweet as honey, just like the grandma who first shared it with us. This homemade honey cake recipe is one that warms our hearts and our bellies, 'cause it's full of spices and tummy-lovin' ingredients.
What You'll Need
- 1 cup honey
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 3 eggs
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup brewed coffee
- 1/4 cup red wine
- 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
What to Do
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Coat two 4- x 8-inch loaf pans with cooking spray.
- In a small bowl, combine honey and baking soda; mix well and set aside.
- In a large bowl, beat eggs, oil, vanilla, and sugar. Add coffee and wine; mix well. Add remaining ingredients and the honey mixture and beat until thoroughly combined. Pour into loaf pans.
- Bake 60 to 65 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

Could this be baked in a Bundt pan or tube pan? If so, what temp and for how long? BTW, you guys (and gals) rock!!

Hi there! Yes, you make this in a Bundt pan at the same temperature. Since the Test Kitchen has not made this recipe with those changes before, we cannot guarantee the outcome nor the cooking time. We recommend 60-75 minutes of baking time or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. :) Enjoy!

My, my, this has just about everything but the kitchen sink. However, I need to try it soon. Problem is that I don't have enough honey to make it today. Love all the spices wine and coffee. Perfect mid morning snack or dessert with some fruit. The wine I have is a spiced wine that should pump up the flavor nicely.

Test Kitchen Team I am maple syrup producer. Should I use a little less because it's thinner than honey?

While the Test Kitchen has not yet made this honey cake with maple syrup, we recommend using pure maple syrup (not pancake syrup) rather than corn syrup. Let us know how it turns out for you!

Could I sub the honey for 1 cup of maple syrup? It's a little thinner than the honey.

I was wondering if you could substitute corn syrup for the honey also?
