Just Your Size Baked Alaska

- COOK TIME

Would you believe baked Alaska was actually invented by a scientist who was testing the effects of heating and cooling. Who knew a science experiment could taste so good. . .and be this easy, too!
What You'll Need
- 1 (6½-ounce) package dessert shells (6 shells)
- 1 pint strawberry ice cream
- 4 egg whites
- 1/2 cup sugar
What to Do
- Preheat oven to 500 degrees F. Place dessert shells on a cookie sheet and scoop equal amounts of ice cream into each one. Place in freezer.
- In a small bowl, beat egg whites until foamy. Add sugar and continue beating until stiff peaks form and make meringue.
- Remove ice cream-filled dessert shells from freezer and quickly spread meringue over ice cream and sides of dessert shell, coating completely. Bake 2 to 4 minutes, or until meringue is golden. Serve immediately.
Notes
Watch these closely while baking - you want them to be nice and golden, but not burned. Oh - dessert shells can usually be found in the produce department of the supermarket near the strawberries.

Norske2736869-The recipe says 500 degrees and I think the freeze time is just as long as you are whipping the egg whites and the prep work so the ice cream doesn't melt while you are working.

What temperature do you bake the meringues and shells? How long should you freeze the shells and ice cream before you put the meringue on and bake?
