Refrigerated Layered Salad is a super make-ahead salad that holds up well and looks as good as it tastes. With a rainbow of colorful layers and taste bud-pleasing textures, this salad recipe is perfect for entertaining.

    What You'll Need

    • 1 1/2 cup mayonnaise
    • 1 tablespoon sugar
    • 1 teaspoon curry powder
    • 1 medium head iceberg lettuce, shredded
    • 2 large tomatoes, chopped
    • 1/2 pound sliced fresh mushrooms
    • 1 medium-sized red onion, thinly sliced and separated into rings
    • 10 radishes, sliced
    • 1 1/2 cup (6 ounces) shredded Swiss cheese
    • 1/4 cup real bacon bits

    What to Do

    1. In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, sugar, and curry powder; mix well and set aside.

    2. In a large glass serving bowl, layer the lettuce, tomatoes, mushrooms, onions, radishes, cheese, and bacon bits.

    3. Spread curry dressing over top; cover and chill overnight, or at least 2 hours, before serving. Toss and serve.

    Note

The nice thing about this salad is that it can be made a day ahead of time so there's no last-minute chopping and preparation. Of course, if you want to make it just before serving, you can do that, too. It's just as good that way!

Can I substitute another spice for the curry. I can't eat curry.

Hello! - You can substitute garlic powder for the curry powder in the same amounts. - Enjoy!

What about nuts sprinkled on top just before it's on the table? It is good that way too.

I put a light sprinkling of sunflower seeds on top of mine, mmm good!

I wish there was nutri. info. listed with this and all recipes, such as carb. count, etc. It does sound very good though!! Hopefully Mr. Food will add nutri. info. soon.

A layered salad is my new favorite way to make salad...but I use a variety of ingredients:romaine lettuce, chopped, grated carrots, chopped tomatoes, sliced or whole olives, spinach, grated cheese, chopped broccoli, frozen peas that defrost in the salad (;)), mushrooms, you can use anything and it makes a beautiful presentation, especially in a clear glass bowl! I serve the dressing on the side so guests can choose...

    IT SOUNDS "OOH SO GOOD!!"

Sounds great, I will try this soon

Mr. Food, you have so many good recipes. Is there a chance you'll have recipes on cards? They are so much easier to file away (and to find later). Hope this can be done. Thanks for the good recipes.
