Once you've tried our Home Baked Beans, plain old out-of-the-can baked beans will be a thing of the past. The long slow oven cooking helps combine the flavors to perfection!
What You'll Need
- 6 slices bacon, diced
- 2 (16-ounce) cans baked beans (any variety)
- 1 medium-sized onion, finely chopped
- 1 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 3 tablespoons prepared yellow mustard
- 3 tablespoons light brown sugar
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
What to Do
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Coat a 9- x 13-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
- In a large skillet, cook bacon over medium heat for 6 to 8 minutes, or until crisp, stirring frequently. Remove from heat and add remaining ingredients; mix well then spoon into the prepared baking dish.
- Bake 60 to 70 minutes, or until thickened and bubbly.
Note
For an even easier dish, add one 3-ounce container of real bacon bits instead of cooking bacon. Then all you need to do is mix and bake.

"Home Baked Beans" that start with commercial-baked beans is kind of an oxymoron, isn't it? Better to call it "twice baked beans"

I do this very recipe except for every 4 cans of baked beans i drain the juice of three this makes them less soupy and more liks baked beans from scratch

It's the garlic cloves that make these baked beans really great, my opinion only. A bit more bacon adds to the deliciousness too! Try adding a TBSP. of granulated sugar if you're loving extra sweetness in your bean dish.

When I was a kid our cook "cheated" and made this dish for barbecues. She sauteed the onion with the bacon. The addition of pineapple chunks is a nice addition. I use Dijon mustard and sometimes put a few strips of bacon on top for decoration. Everybody loves my beans.

Though I am also about making anything easier, I would think that by not cooking the bacon yourself & having the leftover bacon grease in the skillet to which the remaining ingredients are added, it would take away the smokey & bacon flavor. Anyone else agree? - cllM
