I fixed this concoction last night for supper and I was NOT impressed! To me and my husband it tasted like watered down Beef Stew! In fact I think I'd rather have Beef Stew for dinner! I went according to the recipe directions and although it tasted wholesome, it tasted really bland! It needed some seasoning and something more than just water in it! I won't be making it again! YUCK!

We're sorry to hear that you didn't like this recipe. We added a few more seasonings to it, and of course, you can always season it to your preference. Thank you for your feedback!

This is a great hearty stew recipe, perfect for those chilly fall evenings. I adapted this recipe for my crockpot, and it turned out delicious. I coated the cubed steak with a little flour and browned it in a skillet first, then added everything to the slow cooker. I reduced the water by 1/2 cup (the crock pot seems to trap much more moisture than a pot on the stove) and it turned out wonderful. I will be making this again soon!

browned the beef with garlic onions cut the water in half and added 1 (15oz )can of tomatoes along with the beef broth ..added good pinch of thyme used only 2 carrots and add 2 more potatoes very good! good with potatoes, rice, noodles, hot garlic bread it is all good!

Sounds great, but I would use chicken or pork, and put it over brown rice, and leave out the carrots, butter, paprika, and tomatoes. And up the water by 50%, and cook it in the microwave.

Hope this was sarcasm.

Member 9216560 Is this supposed to be funny? recipes are meant as a guide and changed to our own liking along with suggestions but not to be abused

Could use more paprika, IMHO.

Very tasty plus easy to prepare. I did add a chopped purple top turnip and diced bell pepper. We served over noodles, had a pan of cornbread and a jug of sweet tea. a very good meal! Thanks for the recipe.

This sound great, but I would like cook this in slow-cooker. Any suggestion on what to do and how long for the cooking time. I really love this web site and the recipes, down to earth ingredients. Thank for keeping Mr Food's web site going. "OOH IT'S SO GOOD""! =..=

If you would like to prepare this in a slow-cooker, here is what we recommend; brown the beef in a skillet first, then place it in the slow-cooker. Next add the veggies and remaining ingredients and stir. Cook on low setting for 6 to 8 hours or until beef is tender. Enjoy!

I loved it, minus the butter. I enjoy it over pasta and rice. thank you.

Nothing wrong with a little bit of butter per serving. Much better than using processed vegetable oils. And we skip the extra starch entirely. The potato and carrot is enough.

Made this without the cut up tomato- Excellent blend of flavors. So simple - served it with garlic bread - Just Delicious!!!!

Add a couple of bay leaves and 2 cloves minced garlic with beef MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM Good!

What is it with you and bay leaves and thyme. Neither of these two spices are found in Authentic Hungarian Goulash.

So granny likes bay leave & thyme; nothing wrong with that. You go granny

Sounds like my mom's beef stew! Yummmm.......
