Here's a crunchy sesame cookie in the true Italian tradition - great for anytime munching and dunking.
What You'll Need
- 1 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 cup vegetable shortening
- 2 eggs
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon grated lemon peel
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cup sesame seeds
What to Do
- Preheat the oven to 350 degree F. In a large bowl, with an electric beater on medium speed, blend the sugar, shortening, and eggs until smooth. Add the flour, milk, honey, vanilla, lemon peel, and salt; stir until smooth then set aside.
- Place the sesame seeds in a shallow bowl. Drop the dough by rounded teaspoonfuls into the sesame seeds and roll to coat. Shape into oblong cookies, each about 1" x 2", and place on baking sheets that have been coated with nonstick cooking spray.
- Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until golden brown.
Makes about 60 cookies.
