Banana Split Waffles
SERVES

Waffles furnish a crispy base for this breakfast-turned-dessert. Our Banana Split Waffles are a great way to start or end your day when you're feeling like something fun and sweet. This is a fantastically fruity twist on traditional banana split recipes and we're excited to share it with you! Feel free to substitute chopped maraschino cherries or sliced strawberries for the pineapple if you'd like, or just try all three. We did!

What You'll Need

  • 4 frozen waffles
  • 2 cups vanilla ice cream
  • 1 ripe banana, sliced
  • 1 (8-ounce) can pineapple tidbits or crushed pineapple, drained well
  • Chocolate syrup or hot fudge topping for drizzling
  • Whipped cream for garnish
  • 4 maraschino cherries

What to Do

  1. Toast waffles in your toaster or toaster oven. When toasted, place one waffle on a dessert plate and top with a ½ cup scoop of ice cream.

  2. Top each waffle with ¼ of the banana slices, pineapple, and chocolate syrup. If you are using hot fudge, warm it in the microwave in 15 second intervals until warm, stirring occasionally. Garnish with whipped cream and maraschino cherries. Serve immediately, and enjoy!

What a fun idea this recipe is...I'm not sure if I would ever have this for breakfast, since I'm already naturally hyper and don't want to go into sugar overload. LOL, But, this would be an amazing dessert or an unexpected surprise when you've got all the grandkids over on the weekend. You can even customize them and if the kids are willing, which I'm guessing they will be...get them to help out with all of the preparation and customization as well. Win-Win in my book!

This is a far stretch from a breakfast food. However, I like the unusual and this one rates really high up on that scale. I could eat ice cream for breakfast if it were placed before me. I think the kids would love it way more than I would though.

When we head out to the local ice cream bar, my husband will typically elect to have a banana split. I never really learned to like them. It has been a while since our last ice cream run because of the cold weather, but this recipe may be a pleasant surprise this weekend.
