Fast Strawberry Cobbler

Remember all the wonderful things Grandma used to do with strawberries? Well, now you can bring back those sweet memories (without all the work!) by baking this Fast Strawberry Cobbler.
What You'll Need
- 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter, melted
- 1 cup self-rising flour
- 3/4 cup sugar, divided
- 3/4 cup milk
- 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled, cleaned, and cut into quarters
- 1/2 cup water
What to Do
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Pour melted butter into a 1-1/2-quart glass baking dish.
- In a large bowl, combine flour, 1/4 cup sugar, and milk then pour evenly over the butter. In a separate bowl, combine strawberries, remaining 1/2 cup sugar, and water; spoon evenly over flour-milk layer. DO NOT STIR.
- Bake 40 to 45 minutes, or until golden. Serve warm or cold.
Notes
- Make sure you use self-rising flour, since regular flour will not rise and will result in a lumpy mess at the bottom of your baking dish!
- The inside of this strawberry cobbler is ooey-gooey, while the outside has a crisp, golden crust.

Butter and fresh strawberries...of course it's 5 stars. It's even better with blueberries. And I made it with erythritol once, and it tasted great. Delicious.

This has turned into a family favorite. It is so simple to throw together when you need a quick dessert that seems like you tried harder than you did. A keeper!

Strawberries are in season! I need some recipes to use the strawberries I keep buying. I will make this for a weekend dessert and surprise my family. I wonder if blueberries would work, also. I would imagine this dessert would be wonderful served warm out of the oven with ice cream.

I don't know what I could have done wrong. Followed it right down to the letter including self-rising flour. Was a "muddle" of glue-like consistency. I was so disappointed because I attempted it again but didn't put as much water the second time. Same results! Something just isn't right. P.S. It looked so delicious in the photo.

I didn't have access to fresh strawberries when I made this the 1st time...and substituted frozen ones..just left out the water...worked very well. Also works well with other fruit of course

I just tried this recipe and the batter turned out like hard glue. It was awful. There should be eggs or something to make the batter rise. Also, putting water in with the berries makes no sense. It made it gummy and watery. This is a terrible recipe.

Hello! We just retested the recipe in our Test Kitchen and we found that you absolutely have to use self-rising flour to make sure the batter rises. We'll have a photo up soon, so you can see the crispy crust that forms. The inside is ooey-gooey, but that is common and desired when cooking strawberries. We hope you'll give this recipe another try!

It looks really good but when I get ready to print out the recipe to use this ad from amazon.com comes right between the recipe and the directions. It has no purpose or does nothing for the recipe. And it is a waste of ink.

Like it better with peaches. I do not feel the need for all the melted butter. I used half of a stick and it was great.

We couldn't believe how delicious this was for uncheck a simple recipe! The only change I made was that it looked plain after I assembled it, so I made a crumb topping (1/4c. flour, tbsp. brown sugar, cinnamon, tbsp. melted butter) before baking. I am going to make this recipe again with peaches next time.
