What You'll Need

  • 2 cups pancake and baking mix
  • 2/3 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 stick (1/4 cup) butter, melted, plus 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 (16-ounce) package hot pork sausage
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

What to Do

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.

  2. In a medium bowl, stir baking mix, buttermilk, and the 1/2 stick melted butter until soft dough forms. Drop 8 equal spoonfuls of dough onto an ungreased baking sheet.

  3. Bake 14 to 16 minutes, or until golden brown.

  4. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, melt remaining butter; cook 1 to 1-1/2 minutes, or until browned. Add sausage and cook 6 to 8 minutes, or until no pink remains, stirring to crumble sausage. Add flour; mix well. Add Worcestershire sauce, milk, salt, and pepper; mix well. Cook 2 to 4 minutes, or until gravy thickens, stirring constantly.

  5. Cut biscuits in half and spoon sausage mixture evenly on bottom halves. Replace tops and serve.

Sounds Great, but there's only two of us. I know you can freeze the biscuits, but can we freeze the extra gravy? Also, it had 4 serving and 8 biscuits. Two biscuits with gravy seems to be a lot per person.

In my country we do not have access to the Bisquick/pancake mix, what can I use instead of that?

Hi there! Since we're not sure what may be available in your country, we recommend trying this recipe with any refrigerated biscuits that you can bake off OR starting with already-made biscuits from the bakery and just making the pork gravy mix in step 3. We hope this helps! Thank you for your comment.

Do you mean biscuit mix like Bisquick or pancake mix? Never heard Bisquick referred to as pancake mix.

Hey there! Yes - we mean something like Bisquick. It is labeled pancake and baking mix. :)

Here in Canada, we like our deep brown gravies, so I 'toast' my white flour in a pan on high heat until it's a deep golden brown. If you try this, be cfareful it stays white for a while, then when it starts to turn beige, keep a close eye on it and keep flipping it around with a spatula, bringing the bottom to the top. This produces a very rich, brown gravy! )

I made this, and it turned out well. Thanks for the recipe!

Try adding a drained, 4 oz. can mushrooms before adding the flour. My taste buds say that this kicks it up about 2 notches. Wanna go 3 notches, try adding 1/2 cup pre-cooked diced green bell peppers also. Other than that, this recipe is great.
