What You'll Need

  • 1/2 (17.3-ounce) package frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 apples, cored, peeled, and diced
  • 1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon sugar, divided
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 tablespoon water

What to Do

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Unfold puff pastry onto a cutting board and cut into 4 equal squares.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Stir in apples, 1/4 cup sugar, cinnamon, and cornstarch and cook 3 to 4 minutes, or until tender.
  3. Spoon about 2 tablespoons of apple mixture into center of each puff pastry square, leaving 1/2-inch border around edges.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together egg white and water. Brush edges of each square with mixture. Fold each square into a triangle. Using a fork, press edges to seal. Brush top of each puff pastry with remaining egg white mixture and sprinkle with remaining sugar. Place turnovers on prepared baking sheet.
  5. Bake 12 to 14 minutes, or until golden brown.

I have 2 cans of sliced Apple pie flavored apples. Can I use those instead of the fresh apples? I assume the cooking time will be much shorter, but will that affect the baking time of the puff pastry? Thank you for your advice. Mr husband will REALLY BE GREATFUL he has the never-ending sweet tooth!

I have been using this recipe for a while now and my husband and I just love them. I use splenda because my husband is diabetic.

I made these and they are great. My husband is diabetic so I used splenda. We both love them so I made 8. Going to make them again this weekend.

That's great, we're so glad you enjoyed the recipe. Have you ever visited our diabetic site? http://www.everydaydiabeticrecipes.com/

Method using splenda for making fresh apple turnovers.

Quick easy and delicious and.. I have made these many times using pie crust dough (homemade and store bought) I also use canned biscuits rolled out for the dough They are all great

I love this recipe! They're warm, light, and flaky which I think makes the perfect wintertime treat. You must try this easy apple turnover recipe!

When did the Amish start using puff pastry??

Amish families shop at Walmart, Target and many of the stores where Catholic, Protestant and Jewish families shop.

I made these and was almost as good as my Mothers who made them from scratch. She mostly made apricot and chocolate

Oops, I forgot to add that I get 8 turnovers from a can of fruit pie filling....

My hubby went crazy over these! I've used this apple recipe, and canned pie filling in every flavor they make, and they are all excellent. I did add a bit of brown sugar to the apple recipe. I have learned to dust the cutting board with a little confectioners sugar so that the dough doesn't stick to it when you are moving the turnovers to the baking pan. That works much better than waxed paper, parchment paper, or just the plain cutting board. Thanks Mr. Food for another awesome recipe!

Thank you! So glad to hear you both loved this recipe! :)

I made these and their GREAT ! & Easy to make ......

Made a double batch (used the while package of pastry) and had dessert Saturday and an easy fast breakfast on Sunday. All 3 of us loved them!

They look scrumptious! I'm going to add more BUTTER!

I made these and they are great and so easy. Better double the recipe as they disappeared fast.
