You don't have to go out to enjoy one of your favorite restaurant appetizers! Our homemade Fried Cheese Sticks are so easy to make, and are perfect for dipping into some marinara sauce!

    What You'll Need

    • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
    • 1 pound mozzarella cheese, cut into 18 (3-1/2 x 1/2-inch) strips
    • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
    • 1 cup Italian-seasoned breadcrumbs
    • Vegetable oil for frying

    What to Do

    1. In a medium bowl, combine flour, salt, and pepper. Dip cheese sticks into egg; dredge in flour mixture, and dip again in egg. Roll in breadcrumbs, pressing firmly so crumbs adhere. Place on wax paper and chill 30 minutes.

    2. In a large skillet, pour oil to a depth of 1-inch; heat until hot but not smoking. Fry cheese sticks until golden; drain on paper towels. Serve immediately.

There was a recipe on this site for fried mozzarella cheese sticks that called for club soda. Does anybody still have this recipe? Thanks.

Hello! Unfortunately, we do not have any mozzarella cheese sticks made with club soda on our site at this time. We do have onion rings and "Bacon 'n' Cheese Bites" made with club soda that you may want to check out!

I'd love to know if anyone uses other kinds of oil for the frying. I have heard that peanut oil works well for food like this, but I'm curious how that tastes, and if there are any other suggestions that might be less expensive or more heart-friendly.

I was thinking of using string cheese. Would that work?

Good question. We have not tried this recipe with string cheese in the Test Kitchen, so we can not guarantee the results. I am not sure how string cheese would hold up. If you try it, please let us know. Thank you!

Yes, string cheese works well! We have even used squeeky cheese!

Can this recipe be frozen and for long. Thank you

Back in the 90's Mr. Food aired a recipe for mozzarella cheese sticks using club soda in the recipe. I have lost the recipe and would love your help finding it or a similar recipe. Thank you.

Couldn't you also cook these in a deep fat fryer instead of in a pan of hot oil on the stove?

Of course, that would work great! Enjoy!

    or an air fryer?

Hi there! Yes, an air fryer will work for this recipe. Enjoy. :)

It's so easy if you make them ahead of time.....and keep some in the freezer for another day! :)

Lubbock these....had them when eating out several times
