This recipe is identical to my great grandmas recipe for icebox cookies and was always one of my favorites. She adds as an option to add a t of orange zest. I've also made it using oat flour which keeps cholestoral down.

Black Walnut Refrigerator Cookies Ingredients: 1 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened 1 egg 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 3/4 cup chopped Black walnuts The Whole wheat flour gives a darker look to the cookies, Is better for you, and the Black Walnuts give the cookies a whole different wonderful taste - no bitterness as from English walnuts.

I made these cookies and served them to my family and guests. they went real fast. I added chocolate chips to half the dough. My husband, after eating about a dozen says, " these are mighty fine walnut cookies." I told him they have no name and he said in our house they do. so we call them "Mighty Fine Oatmeal Cookies"

The first cookie name I thought was has already been taken "ooh so good" cookies. So I went back and looked at the recipe again and noticed the note from Mr Food then it gave me an idea. Why not call the cookie "Make It Your Own." After all that is what Mr Food suggested in the notes to add your preference to give the cookies your own special taste.

My mother used to make these for us when we were little. We loved them, and if you had the walnuts, everything else was a staple. We always called them "Butterscotch Cookies" because of all the brown sugar. Luscious! autumnlady59
